Sensory Wall Mural - Tactile Touch Panel

Transform a plain wall into a hands-on sensory feature with our Tactile Tree - a large-format sensory wall mural combining approx ten contrasting touch textures, layered circular leaf panels, and crisp V-grooved detailing.

Designed by Mike Ayres Design and made in the UK, this striking tactile wall panel invites exploration, calms busy minds, and creates an instant focal point in schools, hospitals, NHS clinics and public spaces.

A Multi-Sensory Experience

Unlike standard wall art, the Tactile Tree invites interaction. The design breaks down the familiar shape of a tree into distinct sensory zones:

Tactile Exploration: Ten carefully selected textures offer varied sensory feedback — soft pile carpets, rough sand-painted surfaces, ridged wooden dowels, cool smooth mirrors, and industrial treadplate. This allows users to explore concepts of rough vs smooth, hard vs soft, warm vs cool through direct touch.

Reflective Elements: Integrated mirror surfaces in dark green and teal add visual stimulation, reflecting light and movement to capture attention and encourage engagement.

Visual Contrast:
Bold V-grooved outlines define each leaf shape against a lime green background, helping users with visual impairments navigate the design while adding depth and definition.

Ten Distinctive Tactile Textures

Each texture is rebated into the panel for a professional finish, textures may vary depending on version :

  1. Blue Nomad Carpet - soft, deep pile for gentle tactile comfort

  2. Green Astroturf - realistic grass texture bringing the outdoors in

  3. Tretford 66 Carpet - distinctive ribbed weave in natural tones

  4. Dark Green Mirror - smooth, cool, reflective surface for visual interest

  5. Burmatex Bavarian Blue Carpet - rich textured pile with sensory depth

  6. Teal Mirror - cool reflective surface in calming teal

  7. Aluminium Treadplate - industrial metal texture with raised diamond pattern

  8. Padded Fabric (Turquoise) - soft cushioned surface for gentle pressing

  9. Sand-Painted Green - gritty textured finish for tactile contrast

  10. Half-Dowel (Yellow/Green) - smooth wooden ridges for finger tracking

Lower bush textures

At the base, the bushes have playful toadstool and pebble shapes and feature colourful secure push-fit caps, silver domes set in carpet, and black and white detailing, perfectly positioned for younger children, wheelchair users, or those exploring from a seated position.

Built for Public & Clinical Spaces

The Tactile Tree is engineered to withstand rigorous use in high-traffic environments. All materials are durable, easy to clean, and securely bonded, making it a safe addition to settings supporting users with challenging behaviours or additional needs.

The familiar tree design creates a non-clinical, welcoming focal point that encourages natural interaction while offering a moment of regulation for those feeling overwhelmed.
